GENERAL SUBJECTS TEACHER

A vacancy exists at Northcote Lodge for a General Subjects Teacher for Years 4 and 5 to start in September 2012. Applications from specialists in mathematics and English are particularly welcome plus those keen to help with the coaching of boys’ games.

Job Purpose

To teach, assess and support the learning of the boys in each class, inspiring an interest in each subject and laying the foundations for future studies.

To be an efficient classroom teacher, covering the required syllabi and carrying out all the tasks associated with a teaching role within the school.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • To communicate an enthusiasm for the subjects being taught to the boys
  • To meet with the Director of Studies and Heads of Department within the organisation to review and contribute positively to discussions on subjects, curriculum, delivery and continuity of teaching throughout the school
  • To plan, prepare and deliver excellent lessons using a wide range of resources following the programmes of study
  • To keep abreast of all curriculum developments and maintain a thorough understanding of current theory and practice in each subject area
  • To ensure appropriate differentiation is provided for the boys to accommodate their needs and facilitate progress
  • To ensure all boys are making good progress; to identify those who are not, and put in reasonable support for them
  • To assess progress in each subject area and keep a record of assessment in order to make an informed judgement for regular assessment grades
  • To meet parents at Parent/Teacher meetings and respond promptly to parental queries
  • To ensure reports are written for each boy as appropriate
  • To follow all school policies

Knowledge, skills and experience

Essential

  • Recognised teaching qualification
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • English and/or mathematics specialist
  • Commitment and passion for teaching

Desirable

  • A willingness to be involved in the coaching of boys’ games

Salary & Benefits

We offer a competitive salary dependant on experience. The School has its own pay scale which is well above the maintained sector. The contractual hours of work are Monday to Friday 8.00am to 5.30pm term time only, although staff will be expected to work occasional extra days and evenings.
