Form 5 Science Fair

Friday 10 February
The Form 5 boys held a Science Fair in our laboratory this morning.
When I first heard the topic we were going to be investigating, to be honest, I was bewildered. So, William and I thought about what a standard coffee cup from a main supplier like Starbucks did not have. I have to be honest and say that our first idea did involve a balloon, but after simple brainstorming the obvious qualities became clear. Our aim was to keep a coffee or tea above room temperature for the average time taken to drink the beverage.
When you looked around the fair, you could see that the projects that started in everyone's minds had come to life exactly as planned. The most interesting aspect of this experiment was what separated one design from the rest of the crowd. Out of the ordinary is the key to selling a product and something that has never been done before, but none the less makes a cup more compact. Amongst the chaos, I think everyone learnt that designing a coffee cup that is a good insulator, looks good and is not already on the market can be achieved but only with the right amount of determination and dedication.
