. . which is to support at home what we do here at school and take an interest in what your boy is achieving. That’s all! – we don’t expect you to become heavily involved with the minutiae of the learning process; we do expect you to leave your son’s education to us and let us get on with it. If there are any problems we will tell you soon enough (and please remember that not every boy is a genius!). Otherwise, trust us; we know what we’re doing.
There are a very few specific things we ask of parents:
- make sure your boy comes to school every day. Avoid absence for trivial reasons (see Attendance)
- read and initial the diaries every day
- ask boys constantly for school letters and notices being sent home
- help as much as you can with the rote learning aspects – tables, for example – and revision for exams. It can make all the difference
- encourage and help your boys to read, particularly during the holidays
- insist boys behave properly. If something isn’t acceptable at school, then neither should it be acceptable at home
- ensure a reasonable standard of personal appearance, especially in the matter of hair length, and that boys have the correct uniform. Of course, we welcome – and often rely on – parental involvement in many areas of school life – see Parents Association, Help.
