All boys have prep every day from 4.20-5.00pm (Shell), or 4.20-5.20pm (Forms 2-5). Most prep is done at school. However, boys in the top two years can expect to have some prep to be done at home at weekends as well; such prep assignments are written in each boy’s diary which should be checked and signed by parents every day. In general, we do not send written prep to be done at home (exception – Form 5 boys at weekends and boys who miss prep because of matches).
The purpose of prep is to reinforce and practise what boys have learned during lessons. Prep is done under the super-vision of teachers and boys are expected to get quietly on with their work.
Later on, parental involvement is crucial in helping with learning and revision at home if boys are to realise their full potential – see Common Entrance. We cannot over-emphasise what a difference it can make.
