Boys from Form 2 upwards and Shell (after one term) may opt to join after-school clubs, which run on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. Thursday afternoons are given over to karate club. Letters detailing the arrangements for clubs and their availability are sent home at the beginning of Michaelmas term for the first term and then at the end of the Michaelmas and Hilary terms for the following term. Parents are asked to return the tear-off slip promptly indicating which club(s) their boys would like to join.
There is a charge for after-school clubs – typically £80 per term, but it can be more where higher costs are involved (e.g. golf, karate).
The clubs programme changes every term, but may include subjects such as carpentry, chess, computing, cookery, drama, football, art, model-making, etc. It is designed to take advantage of particular expertise available to the school and to be as diverse and interesting as possible, enabling boys to try out new activities and develop their talents. Most clubs are held at school, though some take place at other venues, and are taken both by teachers and outside instructors.
