Cakes may be sent in on a boy’s birthday to be shared amongst his friends at breaktime. Cakes may be ordered from the school’s chef (one week’s notice please – leave a message on his voicemail).
We have a firm and inflexible rule about birthday parties. Here it is: boys may not have birthday parties during the week in term time. This is for two reasons: first, because boys work a very long day and need to get plenty of rest during the week. Second, because it means that from an educational standpoint, two entire days can be irretrievably lost for the whole class: the day of the party and the day afterwards. A boy’s age makes no difference to this; 12 year-olds can get just as excited as 4 year-olds. We make no exceptions, and we take a dim view of anyone who breaks this rule.
