Hilary Term
What a busy term it has been.
The term got off to an excellent start with the junior school taking part in the Cancer UK Young Art Competition and five boys were selected to display their pictures at the Royal College of Art in May.
Our first exciting DT event was the Class 3 ‘Game Zone’ Exhibition where the whole school had a chance to try out and vote for their favourite game which was 'Teacher Dunk' created by Billy Elliot, Henry Blears and Robbie Garvey.
Mark Goodman's hard work towards a DT Scholarship was next to be featured. His excellent DT models ranged from a coffee table housing an electric train set to perspex key fobs, not forgetting the popular Trebuchet which was severely tested while on display to the whole school for 2 days.
Class 5 have been researching and creating models and paintings in the style of their chosen artist. I am delighted with Piers Darby's impressionist picture, and especially thrilled with Harry Stebbing's clay head of Obama, which I shall cast it in plaster during the holidays.
Sculptor Katherine Dowson gave us a talk and showed us pictures of her sculptures to start us off on the National Sculpture 4 Kids Competition. The last few weeks has seen feverish activity on the model making front as all the boys put their own ideas into realizing their amazing mini beasts. I look forward to April 20th when Katherine will return to judge our 'In-House' Sculpture Competition in the Dining Room from 3.30pm.
