"The greatest discoveries of science have always been those that forced us to rethink our beliefs about the universe and our place in it." - Robert L. Park
We live in a scientific age where our very being depends on a basic understanding of sources of energy, what a balanced diet is, the effects of pollution just to mention a few examples. We are increasingly unable to function in our daily lives without some ability to use machines and to understand the implications of their use. Our health depends on vaccines, antibiotics and analgesics. We use these in ignorance at our peril. In school we train the adults of the future so the responsibility is ours. PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY AND BIOLOGY must be an integral part of education.
AIMS
-
To demonstrate the excitement and fun in learning Science and to instil an ongoing interest in it.
-
To demonstrate the relevance of Science to everyday life, showing that many of the things that we use and do have a scientific basis.
-
To develop basis scientific skills, both practical and theoretical.
-
To emphasise the links between Physics, Chemistry and Biology where possible, to ensure a balanced syllabus.
-
To promote the development of future Scientists to their full potential.
PHILOSOPHY
Every opportunity should be given to allow children to develop their own
ideas, to give them the confidence to believe that their solutions to problems may be just as valid as those put forward by others, until proved otherwise, and to give them the skill to test their own ideas and an ability to judge validity.
